Drew Barrymore helps honor Steven Spielberg

Drew was spotted attending a party in honor of Steven Spielberg and managed to sneak past all the cameras which means no pictures of her for us this time.

Drew Barrymore managed to sneak past press at a special dinner honouring her long-time friend Steven Spielberg.
The actress avoided photographers and the red carpet entirely, instead heading straight into the gala party at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles where the director was receiving Americas Democratic Legacy Award.
Steven received the honour from the Anti-Defamation League which fights against bigotry, prejudice and anti-Semitism.
The organisation describes the director as “a true champion of human rights through his film and television projects”.
Previous recipients have included former US president Ronald Reagan, John F Kennedy, Colin Powell and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Speaking as the evening got under way, Steven described receiving the honour as “wonderful”.
American Idol’s Adam Lambert, who was there to perform for the evening, said he was looking forward to seeing Drew and Steven together.
“I love ET, I love that movie – it’s fantastic!” he laughed.
“I’m going to sing the national anthem and hopefully warm everybody up for the night. I sang it a bunch of times in high school at various sporting events, so I went back and kind of dusted off the words. It’s ready to go – shined it, buffed it and I’m ready to sing it.”

Empire’s 50 Sexiest Women

Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce myself before I get to work on this new post. My name is Carmel and I’ll be helping Camilla out with the site. I’ve been a big fan of Drew for a very long time so I am thrilled to work on this site.

Drew is #44 on Empire’s 50 Sexiest Women list.

With a tough Hollywood upbringing, Barrymore’s visage should by rights tell more stories than Bernard Cribbins. It doesn’t – she’s as fresh-faced as ever – and we can probably put that down to a free-spirited approach to life and rock chick attitude. We’ve loved her hippie-dippy coquettishness in rom-coms from 50 First Dates to The Wedding Singer, but we’ve still got a soft spot for Bjergen Kjergen.

Most alluring as… Bohemian-but-ass-kicking P.I. Dylan Sanders in Charlie’s Angels. She was one very redeeming feature of, let’s face it, two pretty irredeemable movies.

Interests include… Barrymore is a keen photographer and a UN ambassador. She’s also an avid Red Sox fan, music lover, and godmother to Frances Bean, daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.

Review in a Hurry: In her directorial debut, Drew Barrymore decides Oscar can wait. Instead of big issues and dramatic acting, Whip It is more like an indie rock album that tween girls everywhere can relate to. Ellen Page (Juno) and crew make roller skating oh so in-your-face fun.

The Bigger Picture: Seventeen-year-old Bliss Cavender (Page) feels bored and insignificant in her tiny, truck-stop hometown of Bodeen, Texas. Feeling the need for a world bigger and badder than the endless beauty pageants her mother (Marcia Gay Harden) shuffles her off to, Bliss and her pal Pash (Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat) head to the hipster city of Austin and discover All Girl Roller Derby and last-place team, The Hurl Scouts. But ya can’t be a skate punk named Bliss—so say hello to Babe Ruthless!

Now hear this: Kirk Jones’ “Everybody’s Fine,” which stars Robert De Niro as a widower who embarks on a road trip to reconnect with his grown children (Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell) after the death of his wife, will premiere at the AFI Fest 2009 on Nov. 3 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. No word on whether reps of the picture, a remake of Giuseppe Tornatore’s “Stanno Tutti Bene,” will hand out handkerchiefs at the screening, but De Niro and Beckinsale are expected to attend. Pete Hammond has already pegged the flick as one to keep an eye on this awards season.

TORONTO (Reuters) – Some people seem to have all the luck. Include in that group actress, producer and now director, Drew Barrymore.

But having luck and doing something with it are two different things, and as early reviews trickle in for Barrymore’s directorial debut, girl power flick “Whip It,” it seems the offspring of a Hollywood legend has found a new career.

“Whip It,” a tale of one young woman defying her mother’s wish of beauty pageant stardom for the rough-and-tumble sport of roller derby, debuted Sunday at the Toronto International Film Festival, and by Monday was being called a “remarkable debut” by show business newspaper The Hollywood Reporter.
